Protease k is a highly active protease of the subtilisin class, used for the general degradation of proteins in biological samples. It is purified from Tritirachium album limber. Protease K is a serine protease with broad cleavage activity. It cleaves the carboxy terminal peptide bond of aliphatic amino acid and aromatic amino acid. This enzyme is purified to remove RNase and DNase activities. Since proteinase K is stable in urea and SDS, it also has the ability to degrade natural proteins.
